The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Share Anger Over Size Updates
Shoppers are voicing their frustration following a change that caused listings displaying inaccurate size information.
This online marketplace has revised its sizing categories for women's and children's garments without notifying all shoppers about the modification.
Online Platforms Backlash
Countless users and merchants have taken to social media claiming that product pages now present a different size category versus the original listing as a result of the reclassification.
Vinted explained the revised method more closely matches other platforms.
They have suggested members to check their listings and update the measurements by hand when needed, causing user dissatisfaction.
Sizing System Changes
Previously, the sizes had both one number and one letter, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The new system has an alphabetical indicator and numerical range such as S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the measurements have been reclassified - such as a large size was previously a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Member Accounts
A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Another user, from Glasgow, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were showing in the marketplace as larger sizing 20-22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they may become frustrated," she said.
Necessary Adjustments
Another shopper, from Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, as I'm chronically ill and platform income has been essential following partial earnings loss," she explained.
Service Background
The platform boasts over 100 million members, with 18 million British users.
It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion when a surprising modification on the platform has faced criticism: earlier, the platform withdrew an update to its shipping options after backlash from users.
